Our Story

CMD was founded as a solo venture by Michael White in 2001 during his time at MIT. The company has since expanded to include the expertise of engineers with backgrounds in _____?, resulting in a detail-oriented and efficient approach to product development.

We provide full product development services, from ideation to industrial design to cost reduction value engineering.

CMD works with a fail fast model of ideation that encourages innovation and adaptability. This allows our engineers the ability to identify potential pitfalls early in the process, quickly land on a design, and limit any risks to the final product.

Meet the Team

  • Mike White

    President/Product Design

    Michael White is a product development executive with 30 years of experience. He started his career at GM, designing engines and EV’s. He received a fellowship to attend MIT Sloan, where he collaborated with a surgeon to conduct IRB studies at MGH. As director of product development at Beckman Coulter, he recruited a global team of 53 engineers to develop IVD instruments and reagents, electronics, and mechanical components. His value engineering team saved Beckman over $250 million.  More recently, Michael was CTO of Fusion Biotec, a contract design and manufacturing organization.  Fusion grew to 55 engineers and developed more than 30 new products in six years before being acquired by Veranex Corporation, where Michael was the Vice President of Product Development until leaving in 2024 to focus on his consulting practice.  As president of Cambridge Medical Devices, LLC, Mr. White consults on product development and FDA design controls for 510(k) and PMA.  

     

    Mr. White takes a hands-on chief engineer approach, with expertise in rapid product development, user-centric design, and mechatronics. BSME and MSME from Stanford, MBA from MIT Sloan.

  • Omar Abdallah

    Systems Design/Fluidics

    Accomplished biomedical engineer and inventor with 20+ years of experience developing diagnostic instrumentation, microfluidics, and sample preparation technologies. Omar leads the development and integration of AmplifiDx’s DX 100™ molecular point-of-care platform and is the inventor of Coral Bio™, an innovative electricity-free urine concentration device. Prior to AmplifiDx, he held engineering and leadership roles at Beckman Coulter, Fusion Biotec, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Aurora Biosciences, where he led complex diagnostic system development and delivered over $10M in annualized cost savings through product innovation. Omar is a co-inventor on AmplifiDx intellectual property and a key architect behind the company’s scalable, low-cost diagnostic platform.
